1895 Wilhelm Seibel I. founded the family enterprise mono, the Britaniawarenfabrik W. Seibel. 1911 a second enterprise was founded, the Hessische Metallwerke Gebr. Seibel. The enterprise W. Seibel got world-wide reputation in 1936 with an Olympic cutlery for equipment of the Olympic village in Berlin. The number of employees increased up to almost 1.000 collaborators. In the 50s there was a rapid downturn, whereby 90 % of the German producers of cutlery fell behind. Only due to the courageous decision of Herbert Seibel, to manufacture design-orientated products, the collapse of Hessische Metallwerke could be avoided.
